Trained in Mumbai, Oxford, and Toronto, Mr Parulekar was appointed as a consultant in 2007 and is widely regarded as a leading expert in paediatric ophthalmology, complex squint correction, and specialist eye surgery in the UK.

He receives referrals from across the UK and internationally for complex paediatric eye conditions, adult strabismus, and advanced ophthalmic cases.

At Birmingham Children’s Hospital—one of the largest centres of its kind in Europe—he treats a wide range of conditions including squints (strabismus), paediatric cataracts, glaucoma, droopy eyelids (ptosis), blocked tear ducts, and neuro-ophthalmological disorders. He has particular expertise in ocular oncology (eye cancer) and is a consultant ophthalmologist to the Birmingham National Retinoblastoma Unit, a nationally designated centre for the treatment of retinoblastoma and childhood eye cancer.

At the Oxford Eye Hospital, he contributes to specialist services in ocular motility, double vision (diplopia), and neuro-ophthalmology, providing expert care across a wide regional network.

Mr Parulekar is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer and a highly regarded educator, training future ophthalmic surgeons and leading fellowship programmes. He has authored and contributed to leading textbooks in ophthalmology and eye surgery, and published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.

 His research has been supported by organisations including the Wellcome Trust, Fight for Sight, and the Medical Research Council. He is Section Editor for Eye, the journal of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and contributes to international research and education.
