Mr Dong Park is a highly distinguished, double board-certified Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, fellowship-trained in advanced vitreoretinal surgery. He also holds the academic appointment of Honorary Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Warwick, reflecting his commitment to clinical excellence and education at the highest level.
Mr Park holds senior NHS positions as an Honorary Consultant Surgeon at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre (BMEC) and Lead Vitreoretinal Surgeon at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust, where he manages complex and highly specialised retinal conditions.
He trained in Medicine at the University of St Andrews, completing his clinical studies at the University of Manchester, graduating with both a BSc (Med Sci) and MB ChB. During his medical training, he was awarded the prestigious RCPCH Medical Student Prize in recognition of outstanding academic achievement. He subsequently completed his specialist ophthalmology training at the renowned Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, one of the UK’s leading centres of excellence in eye care.
In 2015, Mr Park was awarded Fellowships of both the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) and the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO). He further refined his expertise through three years of advanced subspecialty fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
Renowned for his precision and surgical excellence, Mr Park specialises in complex cataract and retinal surgery, offering patients access to the most advanced, minimally invasive techniques available. His exceptional skill was recognised early in his career, where he was ranked among the highest-performing cataract surgeons in the North West of England.
Mr Park has played a pioneering role in retinal surgery, including being the first surgeon in the UK to introduce air tamponade for retinal detachment repair. He continues to advance the field through innovative approaches to macular surgery. Alongside his clinical work, he is an active researcher, peer reviewer for the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, and a regular contributor to leading international conferences and publications.
