Mr Nonavinakere Manjunatha – Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon & Medical Retina Specialist
Mr Nonavinakere Manjunatha is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with over a decade of consultant-level expertise, specialising in Medical Retina and advanced retinal disease management. He is widely recognised for his expertise in treating age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic eye disease, and retinal vein occlusion, with a particular focus on delivering intravitreal injection treatments to preserve and improve vision.
As a senior consultant at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust since 2013, Mr Manjunatha has been at the forefront of delivering high-quality retinal care. He is the Lead Consultant for Diabetic Retinopathy Hospital Eye Services and Retinal Vein Occlusion treatments, and has extensive experience managing patients with complex, sight-threatening conditions.
Mr Manjunatha is highly skilled in administering intravitreal injections, including anti-VEGF therapies, which are the gold standard treatment for macular degeneration and other retinal conditions. He combines clinical precision with a calm, reassuring approach, ensuring patients feel fully informed and confident throughout their treatment journey. His clinics are designed to provide efficient, streamlined care, with rapid access to diagnosis, imaging, and treatment where needed.
He has held several senior leadership roles within ophthalmology, including Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology at UHCW for eight years, and continues to contribute as Medical Staffing Lead and Consultant Lead for ophthalmic imaging. These roles reflect both his clinical excellence and his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care.
Mr Manjunatha completed his medical training in 1998 and went on to achieve an MD in Ophthalmology from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and undertook advanced sub-specialty training in Medical Retina through a senior clinical fellowship in Birmingham.
He is also actively involved in research and innovation in retinal disease, with numerous national and international publications and presentations. His work has contributed to advancing treatment approaches and improving patient outcomes. His leadership and dedication have been recognised through his selection as a finalist for ‘Leader of the Year 2019’ at UHCW, and his team’s recognition as finalists in the national HSJ Awards.
Passionate about education, Mr Manjunatha plays an important role in training the next generation of doctors as both an Educational and Clinical Supervisor, and regularly teaches undergraduate medical students.
